田弘茂認為，回顧過去一年，國際情勢發生重大變化，川普「意外勝出」，凸顯政治保守主義思潮在全球各地蔓延；孤立主義、保護主義以及民粹式的民族主義可能重返國際社會舞台，不可輕忽。

  • 會前，針對媒體提問，大陸國台辦主任張志軍表明不允許支持台獨的台商到大陸賺錢的言論，田弘茂始終不發一語，快步進入會場。不過，海基會副董事長許勝雄相對樂觀稱，台灣跟大陸如何和平相處共同塑造一個好的環境，攜手到全世界去，這才是正面的，「應該從正面方向去思考吧」。
